2002 The Year of the Open
The Black

The Spring Scramble was played on Sunday, May 5th, on the Blue course, from the Championship tees.  The team of Pete Gadigian and Jon Silverberg (again?) wins first place with a 64.  Their closer pursuers are John Lewis and Greg Kryjak with 66 and Pete Amoruso and Mike Finnnegan with a 67.  Bringing up the rear with a 75, was the team of Billy Bartell and Dennis Barry.  The Burglar is on a roll.

Due to the U.S. Open being played at Bethpage, the NPC golf season was rather shortened by this event.  The main casualty from the shortened season was the NPC Classic.

The Open came and went and so did the Club Championship.  The Championship flight ended in a tremendous controversy.  The final match of this flight between Al Falussy and Billy Bartell scheduled to be played with the two finalists of the A flight (Bruce Garcia and Sean Mc Gowan), ended in a tremendous controversy, which later on was addressed by the Board.

The two contenders, Falussy and Bartell, on their own, decided to postpone the match due to the weather conditions not being at its best.  Let it be said here that the match between Garcia and Mc Gowan started and continued until it ended with Garcia besting Mc Gowan 1 up for the coveted A flight championship trophy.

The B and C flights also continued and ended their matches until one of the contestants emerged as a winner.  Ray Eklund beat Frank Magro in 19 holes in the B flight and TJ Persempire trounced Tom Mullaly 6 & 5 in the C flight.

After careful review by the Board, Billy Bartell and Al Falussy were DQ'd and first place was declared vacant for the first time in the history of the Club.
